Samantha Agins, 22, died on August 11th, 2015. Samantha was an EMT at a summer camp and on August 8th a
camper went into cardiac arrest. Samantha performed CPR on the victim for at least 30 minutes until the responding
ambulance arrived. Following the event she fell ill, attributed to the shock of the event being her first time performing
CPR, and was sent home.
Once home her condition deteriorated and she was taken to Pocono Medical Center where it was discovered that an
artery was dissected and she had been having multiple strokes. The arterial dissection was attributed to the effort
and physical exertion of the resuscitation effort. She was transferred to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in
Philadelphia, but her condition worsened, she was taken off life support on Tuesday at the wishes of her family, and
her tissues were donated to others.
Samantha was a senior at East Stroudsburg University with aspirations to become a Physicians Assistant. Samantha
Agins’ legacy is “ if you can help someone, you have to try, ” She was the oldest sister to Sara and Kayla, and they
created the hashtag #HeartsForSam in her memory.
A memorial scholarship for Pocono Mountain East High School seniors is set up at Wells Fargo Bank in Samantha’s name.
Memorials remembrances may be made to the Wells Fargo bank Bank – Samantha Agins Memorial Scholarship Fund,
